Talk about it!

I haven’t written any blogs for a long time, but now I'm back!

Over time, I've met many ostomates, but also many people curious about ostomies, Crohn's disease, and all that surrounds these subjects. If you spoke with people who know me, they couldn’t deny that I’m a person who likes to talk a lot. Well, I couldn’t hide it from you either. When the subject of a discussion is important to me, I’m always the first to talk. In the case of my condition, being an ostomate, I’m very open-minded and comfortable to talk about it. I have discovered, from the people with whom I talk about my ostomy, that they were really inquisitive and interested to understand everything, without any judgment or disgust.

So, talk about it!

  • Talk about your ostomy with your friends, your relatives and your coworkers. You’ll be more at ease when an unexpected fart comes.

  • Talk about it as often as possible. You could be the one who helps someone who doesn’t accept their situation well and this could push them to confide in you.

  • Talk to other ostomates or Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence. They’ll be able to give you some tips or advice and help you if you have any problems. Also look in your local area, there must be a group of people helping those living with an ostomy.

  • Talk to the curious. They’ll surely meet other patients, ostomates or cancer survivors one day and so they’ll be able to better understand them.

  • Talk about it because without knowing it, you could change the life of a person, or at least the vision of life of a person. We have all already come across someone inspiring in our life, someone who made us question and surpass ourselves.

So just talk about it! It could only make you feel good.

In my opinion, it can only be positive. And well, it can also help to keep jerks, and other people we don’t want in our lives, away from us.

In my case, I do think you’re all inspiring.
